I went to do my laundry and it was a disaster of epic proportions. What I had thought was fabric softener was actually bleach. The world was pretty much over: I would be starting my first day in the Unit with orange spotted clothing and everyone would make fun of me. It was going to be a terrible start to middle school.
As I nervously walked into homeroom on the first day of school, no one made fun of me. If anyone was laughing, it was because I was laughing about it, too. The world hadn’t ended, but more importantly, I had survived thinking it would. I realize now that I’ve been learning this whole time that I have to make mistakes in order to grow. Mistakes are a reminder that growing up is a process of trial and error.
