A Fayerweather education prepares our students for a wide range of high school options. Local independent high schools delight in our students’ love of learning, their ability to question and reflect, and their strong written communication skills. Our Next Schools Advisor works with eighth grade students and their families to identify their best options for high school; whether it is an independent school or one of our excellent local public school districts.
Our Next Schools process is unique and comprehensive. It helps families identify the academic environment and demands with which their child will be comfortable, the logistics and financial aspects of potential schools and the community in which the entire family can thrive. We address all aspects of the admissions process from SSAT prep, to student interviews and advocacy for students throughout the process.
Specific elements of our program include
Preparation for the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test)
Frequent consultation with the Next Schools Advisor, beginning in 7th grade
Mock interviews with feedback and tips
An optional semester course for 8th graders applying to independent schools
Annual informational panels for families (e.g. FSS alumni or admissions officers)
Coordination of recommendations and transcripts
Access to knowledge of area independent, public and boarding schools
Advocacy for your students throughout the process through established relationships with schools
