As part of our Building Community from the Inside Out theme for the year, we are continuing to build a bridge with the Friday Cafe community. If you would like to get together with other FSS families to cook, this is a chance for you to do so and provide food for many area people who are experiencing food insecurity. You can also cook with your family on your own. There are sign ups for each monthly event.
THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT FOOD:
-
Food should be packed in containers that will not be returned. For foods that need reheating, foil pans with foil lids are the best so they can be put directly into the oven. Other items, such as cookies, can be wrapped in foil or put in bags and will be transferred to serving dishes.
-
Please label foods: From Community Cooks / Fayerweather.
-
Please list ingredients to identify potential allergens.
-
PLEASE DO NOT USE ALCOHOL OR ALCOHOL-BASED INGREDIENTS IN COOKING (THIS INCLUDES NON-ALCOHOLIC WINES/BEERS/LIQUORS)
Non-food items are also needed. These include travel-sized soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, new socks, new underwear, gloves, hats, sweaters, winter coats (in the winter months).
You can either deliver the food and other items to Fayerweather at drop of Friday morning, or deliver directly to the church as follows:
First Church, 11 Garden Street, Cambridge, MA
Deliver on Friday morning by 11am: bring to kitchen/community room - OR - prior day 7am-9:30 pm: Find space in kitchenette fridge.
Where to leave your food: Take the entrance on the right side of the church building through path next to the playground. Inside the entrance hall you’ll see the new kitchen on the right and large community room on the left.
Everyone is welcome to attend Friday Cafe. Teachers take small groups of Unit students to help serve and talk with other guests. If anyone wants to attend, you are welcome. If you would like to volunteer to help at the event, contact
jennifer@fayerweather.org and she can help you sign up for that.
