Rafferty Park Renovation Project

Garrett Nichols
Exciting news! The City of Cambridge will begin renovating Rafferty Park to give it a much needed update, including refreshing some of the existing equipment and introducing new features.

The City is going to be displaying the preliminary design concepts at a “Pop Up in the Park” next Monday, July 15, from 8:00 - 10:00 AM at Rafferty, and they are inviting community members (which includes you!) to check them out and provide feedback.

If you would like to see an overview for the project, you can do so here. Additionally, you can view a slideshow that was delivered at a community meeting about the project in June here. There is also a recording of the presentation, which includes a walkthrough of the design concepts here. (Use passcode #H0vfe2R to access the recording.)

Right now the project plans will not be finalized and out for bid until mid-late February 2025, and construction is not anticipated until late spring/early summer 2025. Rob Lee has been attending meetings and reporting back, and we likely won’t know until spring 2025 how they’ll phase the plan and what impact it will have on our use the park. Luckily we also have Fresh Pond and the park at Neville, so we are optimistic about the project and the additional resources we’ll have once the renovation is complete.
